Milk from the Hills does Sunflowers
Welcome to 2024 PYO Sunflowers
We have had a bit of a challenging year so far with our sunflower field!
On the 9th May we planted our beautiful 8 acre field - and the slugs ate the whole crop.
On the 27th May we planted our 8 acre field again - and the pigeons ate the whole crop.
On the 13th July we gave planting our field one more try - and so far (fingers crossed) they are growing well!
Due to having to plant the field three times, and the extreme rain this summer, we’re opening a lot later than we had hoped to!
Location:
Lower Norcroft Farm,
Silkstone Lane,
Silkstone,
BARNSLEY,
S75 4JZ
Come and pick your own Sunflowers, there will be five varieties to choose from and enjoy a wander through 8 acres of beautiful countryside, with plenty of perfect photo opportunities.
Our PYO Sunflower field will be open from the end of August to the end of September - dependent on the glorious British weather!
There will be lots of opportunities to take lovely photos in the field as you follow the paths, as well as a private photography team working on the weekends if you want a focused photo shoot - more information will be released about this soon.
Please read below for more detailed information about your visit…
What happens?
No need to book tickets, you can arrive at the Sunflower Field anytime to enjoy the flowers.
Parking will be clearly marked on entry - just follow the arrows!
Toilets and hand washing will be available.
Secateurs can be purchased on entry, to cut your sunflower stems, or you are welcome to bring your own (over 18s will be able to buy only). We can then “buy back” your secateurs after your visit.
We love friendly dogs, and as long as they are kept on a lead and cleaned up after, they are very welcome to join you in the field.
We are a farm, and the sunflowers and parking are in a field, so the ground can be uneven in places and impacted by the weather. Please dress appropriately for this, particularly footwear.
The sunflower trail through the field is very bumpy, as well as on an incline, so is not well suited for prams and wheelchairs unfortunately. At the entrance in the picnic area it is much flatter and the sunflowers can still be enjoyed from here.
Drinks, ice creams and snacks will be available to purchase - including our delicious milkshakes in some of our most popular flavours!
P.S - there may even be a limited edition Sunflowers from the Hills refillable glass milk bottles!
